Remember / Mark Valentine

Paint your lips and lids with rosewater.
Dip bread in your wine and toast your dead:
black bread, white bread, even, my friend,
if you have no other, green bread, and may you be blessed,
but dip bread in your wine and remember your dead.

Mark Valentine’s collections Star Kites (2013) and At Dusk (2012) celebrate European poets. Recent poetry has been published by Agenda, Black Flowers, Burning House Press, ink, sweat & tears, M58, PN Review, Reliquiae, and others. He has also written studies of the fantasists Arthur Machen and ‘Sarban’, several volumes of ghost stories and collections of essays about old and odd books.
