well theresa / Pete Donohue

well theresa
it didn’t take long
from body to bones
i remember clearly
your translucent skin
thinly stretched
across an elegant frame
barely touched
by sunlight or human hand
the latticework puzzles
of those magenta veins
scarlet nail polish
sloppy & chipped
subtle blonde lawns
carpeting intimate female places
& those plum-tinged lips
rare rosebuds of promise
we navigated nights
sharing darkness with moonlight
during those sleepless times
our insecurities matched
a friendship without sex
more important than anything
in our youthful days
until you took that warm bath
& surrendered to the water.
