Artist Statement

“A long time ago, as a child, I found the word ‘surrealist’ in a science fiction novel and asked what it meant. This was the first step on an adventure that continues until this day. I have since made friends with surrealists around the world through correspondence, collective games and contributions to publications and group shows.

Since 2017, I have made collage a weekly practise. I buy second hand photo books, cut out images and scenes that seem to me to have some sort of magic to them, and put them together intuitively. The results are frozen moments of drama that could go in any direction, as if torn from the covers of pulp paperbacks or movie posters. You can follow this work at https://weirkabinett.wordpress.com and on instagram at @dm_campbell. I also take part in the collective activities of the surrealist group La Sirena https://lasirenasurrealistgroup.wordpress.com
